3. Semester Study Abroad Polices 2012-2013 QU Office of Multicultural and Global Education policies governing semester-long study abroad are as follows: • 1. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00. Students whose GPA falls between 2.60 and 2.99 must submit the Request for Waiver of GPA Requirement form. In special circumstances, QU may approve a waiver in its sole discretion. Students whose GPA falls below 2.60 are not allowed to study abroad. It should be noted that approved study abroad programs may have additional GPA requirements. • 2. Students must not have any existing or pending conduct sanctions. Students with a conduct sanction or who have one placed on them after being accepted to study abroad must submit a Request for Waiver of Conduct Clearance. In special circumstances, QU may grant permission to study abroad in its sole discretion. 

4. Semester Study Abroad Polices 2012-2013 3. The study abroad program must be pre-approved by the QU Office of Multicultural and Global Education. 4. Students must maintain full-time student status (i.e., 12-16 class credits) while abroad. In certain countries a normal semester load can consist of 4 courses, which can be equivalent to 12 QU credits. You are able to take 5 courses if necessary, however, in certain cases this can be considered a difficult workload, and may not be advisable. Please note that there also may be an additional fee from your program for enrolling into a 5th course, and/or special permission required from the host institution.(**This concern is most prevalent in the Australian Education System) 5. Students studying abroad are required to receive approval from their academic advisors and respective dean(s) for all courses listed on the Study Abroad Registration Form. 

5. Semester Study Abroad Polices 2012-2013 6. Students must comply with all policies and procedures as outlined by the QU Procedures for Studying Abroad. 7. QU students study abroad payment includes, but is not limited to: a registration fee, QU’s full-time tuition, the cost to live in the QU Commons Residence Hall, less the dining service fee, and an obligatory overseas emergency and medical insurance fee. If the QU approved study abroad programs cost exceeds the sum of QU’s tuition and housing, the difference will be paid to QU by the student. When studying through a QU approved study abroad program, the student is responsible for paying any refundable security deposits, program application fees, and/or program withdrawal fees directly to the study abroad program. Depending on the study abroad program, students may also be expected to cover the cost of additional expenses including, but not limited to: airfare, visa, meals, academic materials, public transportation, personal travel, etc. Inclusions and exclusions may vary by program.

6. What do I pay to study abroad Spring 2013? • QU’s Full time tuition if abroad = $18,255 • QU’s Cost to live in Commons Residence Hall (less the dinning service fee =$5,750 • Emergency medical insurance fee= $475 • QU’s Registration fee = $25 • Extra fees that the student may be responsible for: • Refundable security depositsfor your approved program • Program application fees, and/or program withdrawal fees • Depending on the study abroad program, students may also be expected to cover the cost of additional expenses including, but not limited to: airfare, visa, meals, academic materials, public transportation, personal travel, etc. Inclusions and exclusions may vary by program.

7. What do I pay to study abroad Spring 2013 ( cont.) • If the QU approved study abroad program cost(fees) exceeds the sum of QU’s tuition and housing ($24,005) the difference will be paid to QU by the student. • Tuition ($18,255) + Housing ($5,750) = $24,005 • Programs which have exceeding this sum in the past include: Semester at Sea; all pre approved programs in Australia.

8. Semester Study Abroad Polices 2012-2013 8. Students are required to reside at the study abroad program resident/program housing (Research your options, student housing is very different outside the USA i.e smaller, fewer amenities, not always located on campus) 9. Students who receive financial assistance at QU may apply their financial aid for study abroad, including federal aid, state grants, college grants and scholarships. 10. Withdrawal from a program initiated by the student, QU, the Program Affiliate, and/or the Host Institution will result in a loss of fees and tuition in accordance with QU’s refund policy and the Program Affiliate refund policy. Depending on the circumstances of the withdrawal, the student may be subject to action based on QU’s Student Conduct System.

9. Semester Study Abroad Polices 2012-2013 Withdrawal from an Education Abroad program is a serious matter and may have consequences regarding grading, credit transfer, financial aid, University enrollment status, fee assessment tuition refund, etc.  Regardless of the reason and effective date of withdrawal, it is the responsibility of students to immediately notify their Program Affiliate and QU’s Office of Multicultural and Global Education in writing and to understand the implications of their withdrawal actions.

10. Semester Study Abroad Polices 2012-2013 11. For QU students studying abroad, the credits and grades for approved courses taken abroad become part of the students’ academic transcript, and all grades will be included in the calculation of the students’ GPA. Grades are the exclusive prerogative of the faculty members teaching the courses. If students have questions about grading in any particular course, they must consult the faculty member teaching that course. Questions involving grades issued for study abroad course undertaken through other institutions should be directed to those institutions. QU will not change grades issued by another institution. 12. Students may not take classes for a pass/fail grade unless there is no other grade given for that course. 13. Students who have not completed the Study Abroad Course Registration Form, complied with policy and procedure as outlined by the QU Procedures for Studying Abroad, will not receive transfer credit and will be ineligible to study abroad through Quinnipiac University.
