Vision In concert with the California Department of Developmental Services, Sonoma Developmental Center will: Be a nucleus of best practices that will provide people with developmental disabilities (people) with the tools and experiences necessary to positively influence their future. Forge partnerships and effectively utilize all available human and physical resources to develop and implement winning programs, services, and initiatives that meet the life-evolving needs of people. Innovatively develop, advance, and deploy eminent models of service distinction. Be continually accountable through the use of mechanisms that measure and monitor outcomes.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Five Goal Areas ~ Twenty-Five Objectives ~ Strategic Plan Implementation Teams Teams created to address objectives include a Leader, Liaison and members. Team members chosen from a broad spectrum of individuals who are able to contribute to the team’s success, i.e. Sonoma clients & employees, parents, and representatives of regional centers & colleges, etc.

Attract, develop, deliver, and retain a culturally diverse labor force that is qualified, competent, creative, motivated, and well. • Outreach: Increase the pool of qualified applicants through a targeted outreach program. • Hiring: Increase the percentage of applicants that successfully complete the hiring process. Recruitment Development Deployment • Best Practices and Technologies: Establish a process that regularly assesses staff development and leadership programs, identifies the most current and effective technologies and practices, and ensures that they are continuously infused into curriculums and implemented throughout the organization. • Information Technology (IT) Training: Develop and implement a comprehensive, ongoing IT training program that will expand capabilities and provide the skills that are necessary to effectively accomplish job-related tasks. • Accredited Academic Programs: In collaboration with internal and external entities, including applicable educational institutions, create a template that identifies the components necessary for the evolution and sustainability of the existing Psychiatric Technician program. Note: The template will be used to establish additional academic programs at the Sonoma Center.

Recruitment Development Deployment • Direct Services Acuity System: Implement a client-driven residential staffing allocation system that includes a continuous process for clearly communicating how the system works with data that can be easily interpreted. • Wellness:Institute changes to health and safety/wellness activities that reduce the percentage of lost work hours with a focus on prevention.

Join with relatives and other partners to develop programs that promote self-awareness, self-determination, and self-advocacy; and, empower people to be participating membersof their community. • Self-advocacy/governance: Establish a self-advocacy/governance program at the Sonoma Center, and determine what support will be required to create and institute a successful self-advocacy organization. • Sonoma Center Advocacy, Rights, Opportunities (ARO) program: Through collaboration with partnering agencies, explore and create innovative programs that will function in conjunction with the Sonoma Center Advocacy, Rights, Opportunities (ARO) program. Join with relatives and other partners to develop programs that promote self-awareness, self-determination, and self-advocacy; and, empower people to be participating membersof their community. • Interdisciplinary team process: Review, evaluate, and identify mechanisms for the improvement of the existing Interdisciplinary (ID) Team process. • Family involvement and communication: Develop methods that will improve the overall communication with families, and encourage their involvement and participation. Ensure that families receive relevant information regarding their relatives, regulations, policies, services and supports, community resources, rights, and responsibilities. Create the capability to assess and determine how well the Sonoma Center is fulfilling the expectations of its customers and stakeholders. Build a collaborative culture of accountability that empowers, and positively recognizes the improvement efforts of individuals, departments, and units. • Performance Measures: Establish a management (accountability) process to collect, analyze, and display data; identify areas of concern; drive the improvement of services; manage organizational goals, objectives, outcomes, and processes; and ensure that performance measures are reviewed at the appropriate levels. • Consumer Satisfaction: Develop a systematic process, including updating formal communication systems, to assess and address the interests, preferences, and satisfaction of the people living at the Sonoma Center, and use the information as a key measure of the Center’s performance. • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Develop a systematic process for assessing the satisfaction of, and soliciting input from stakeholders, i.e. families, staff, partners, and others. Develop new and strengthen ongoing partnerships through public awareness and promotion of a positive image. Actively collaborate to consider innovative possibilities for providing future services that will be needed at the Sonoma Center. • Public awareness: Promote the development and implementation of an innovative public awareness campaign pertaining to developmental disabilities issues. • Future Services: Explore the development of an array of future services to be provided at the Sonoma Center.
