About him • He was born on 16 September 1923 • He helped Singapore gain independence • Singapore's second prime minister Goh Chok Tong appointed him Senior Ministerin 1990 • He held the advisory post of Minister Mentor, created by his son Lee Hsien Loong • In 2006, he was presented with the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

  3. Things he contributed to Singapore • Lee Kuan Yew establised People's Action Party in 1954 and he negotiated self-rule for Singapore in 1957 and 1958 . He then became leader of Singapore in 1959 . He also took Singapore into Malaysian 1963 but saw it expelled in August 1965 and he stepped down as PM in 1990 for 31 years,the longest serving PM in the world and having led Singapore to its status as an Asian NIC
