LOCAL PARTNERS IN NNIPThe defining functions • Build and operate information systems with recurrently updated indicators on neighborhood conditions • Facilitate and promote the direct practical use of indicators by community and city leaders for community building and local policy making • Emphasize the use of information to build the capacities of institutions and residents in distressed neighborhoods

ADVANCING THE STATE OF PRACTICE • NNIP Shared Indicators System • Cross-site analysis with national data • Planning grant for local data transfer with UI, Chicago, and Minneapolis (McKnight support) • Further expansion of Integrated Data Systems • Progress at the local sites and for the network • Established IDS workgroup, possible cross-site project

ADVANCING THE STATE OF PRACTICEHousing Markets • Follow-on brief about roundtables of housing and schools practioners on school & residential mobility • Local partners still leading examples • Four local partners presented at New Orleans Reclaiming Vacant Properties conference • Oakland to be featured in Federal Reserve video • Housing panel at upcoming CIC conference • Provision of data and guides with CHP, LISC on Foreclosure-Response.org (though future unclear)

ADVANCING THE STATE OF PRACTICEPartner Involvement in Federal Initiatives • Promise Neighborhoods • Federally funded in Atlanta, Detroit, San Antonio • Several more progressing without federal funding • Choice Neighborhoods • Planning grantees: DC, Columbus, Cleveland & San Antonio • Implementation finalists: DC and San Antonio • Sustainable Communities Initiative • Major work by Boston, Chicago, Kansas City

BUILD/STRENGTHEN LOCAL CAPACITY • Strategy for local information infrastructure field • Making the case for NNIP model • New work plan for strengthening capacity of current partners and bringing in new ones • Define and expand NNIP’s role in “open data” • Both conceptual and city portraits • Exploring dissemination options for UI small area data (open data portals, NHGIS)

BUILD/STRENGTHEN LOCAL CAPACITY • Developing capacity in new communities • Pinellas County, Houston, Los Angeles (with Federal Reserve), several others • NNIP website • Average 1,400 /month unique visitors in 2012 • 10% find site directly, 10% referral from NNIP partners, 10% other referral • Need input on strategy for publicity and content • Launch of Alumni Network
