The National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership An Update

This update provides information on the semi-annual meeting of the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership (NNIP) held in Oakland, CA in October 2010. ADVANCE THE STATE OF PRACTICEFederal Place-based Initiatives • Promise and Choice Neighborhoods • Promise Neighborhoods award in DC, work continuing in other cities • Completion of NNIP School Readiness Initiative, contributing to Grade Level Reading Campaign • UI paper on performance management for Choice Neighborhoods Program • Sustainable Communities Program • Support for data-driven planning • Local partners involved with applications • Recognition of Dallas regional equity analysis and action agenda

ADVANCE THE STATE OF PRACTICE • Comprehensive Community Development • Collaboration with LISC (MacArthur Foundation grant extended 2 more years) • Initiatives in Chicago (NC) and 11 SC cities • 5 NNIP partners involved in evaluation • UI analysis of metro and neighborhood change • NNIP recognition of need to strengthen work in building neighborhood capacity • Work in support of LISC’s new Comprehensive Community Development Institute (CCDI) • Contribute to CCDI Journal

ADVANCE THE STATE OF PRACTICE • The Foreclosure Crisis • Impacts on school children (Open Society Institute) • Local partners continue to be on cutting-edge • Panel at National Vacant Properties Campaign • UI bid to conduct HUD’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 Tracking Project • NNIP Shared Indicators System • New “Framework” paper, to be revised this year • Pilot system development in Minneapolis & Chicago (McKnight support) • Cross-site analysis with national data (mid-2011) • First submissions of local data (late 2011)
