REASONS FOR ANNEXATION Texas had strong family and business ties to the U.S. Texas needed U.S. military and monetary aid. “Manifest Destiny”- Many Americans supported the belief that God destined the U.S. to move west across the continent. U.S. worried about Great Britain’s influence in Texas.
