  4. Goal Setting On your sticky note write your academic goal about one thing you want to learn during this lesson about the motivation of the Klu Klux Klan. A- tell B your goal B- tell A how you can help them reach their goal Swap roles

  6. Background Information • That is exactly what the Klan did to African Americans. • The Klu Klux Klan’s main goal was to keep blacks from pursuing the rights they had gained after the Civil War. • Review: What rights did the African Americans gain through Reconstruction?

Primary Source • Remember, primary sources are from the actual time period and secondary sources are written after the time period. • When we are looking at sources sometimes we have to infer, (background knowledge + clues from the source), to find the meaning. • Let’s look at a primary source to infer information about the Klu Klux Klan.

  9. Group Work Explanation • In your groups you are going to analyze the document given to you. This document will help you learn about the reasons why the Klu Klux Klan was motivated during Reconstruction. • You must use your inference skills! • Some will have primary sources and others will have secondary sources. Keep this in mind!

  10. Get to Work! You have 10 minutes to complete the analysis of your document as a group. Be prepared to share when the timer goes off. Use your time wisely!

Klu Klux Klan Notes • The Klu Klux Klan was motivated to keep African Americans from exercising their newly gained rights. • They wanted to protect “white supremacy” and thought the African Americans would threaten their race. • They also wanted to protect the women and children from the African American militia.
