Duties of the Chapter President • Should download the Leader’s Guide on the IAAP website • Shall mentor the Vice President and/or President-elect, Treasurer and Secretary throughout the year in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities to ensure succession for the following year’s slate of officers • Should have thorough knowledge of the chapter bylaws
Duties of the Chapter President • Shall preside at all meetings of the Chapter, Board of Directors, and conduct these meetings in an efficient and dignified manner • Shall carry a copy and have thorough knowledge of Parliamentary Procedure and the Chapter, Division and International By laws and Standing Rules • Shall attend all Division meetings as delegate of the chapter
Duties of the Chapter President • Encourage participation and attendance at all meetings of the Chapter and Division by adhering to the Division 2012-2013 goals of Retention, Rewards and Recognition
Duties of the Chapter President • Appoint qualified members as Chairperson of committees to see that committees function continuously throughout the year • Example • Membership, Program, AP Day/Week, Bylaws / Standing Rules, Certification, Education, Nominations
Duties of the Chapter President • Acts as ex officio member of all chapter committees except Nominations • Direct the work of the Chapter with the aid of the other officers, and be familiar with the duties of all officers and committee chairpersons
Duties of the Chapter President • Remember to set goals: • Leaders are visionaries • Adapt your skills to the future • Encourage education • Plan programs that meet the needs of your members • Set an example: • Start meetings on time • Have a board and chapter meeting agenda and stick to it • Be open to any and all suggestions • Be fair, honest and exhibit integrity • Reward and recognize good deeds
Duties of the Chapter President • Answer promptly all correspondence which needs the President’s attention • Example • Correspondence from HQ or Division • Adhere strictly to deadlines and expect same from your officers / chairs
Duties of the Chapter President • Represent the Chapter as a Delegate at Division Meetings, International Education Forum and Annual Meeting ; provide a written report to the Chapter
Duties of the Chapter President • Keep the Division President fully informed on all matters of the chapter • Utilize your Division Board Contact. They are there to assist and guide you • Any contact changes regarding Chapter Officers should be sent to the Division secretary, as well as IAAP Headquarters, Laura Giokas, lgiokas@iaap-hq.org
Duties of the Chapter President • In closing – Remember… • Rule by consensus not by command and control • Keep a weekly / monthly log of all routine responsibilities • Deliver to the incoming President the log and all pertinent files within the time specified in the Chapter Bylaws and Standing Rules, or if not stated, within 30 days from the date of installation.
