Turn to page 15 in Student Handbook If your test results indicate ESL 350 placement, the advisement counselor may recommend that you take the CTEP English Exam for ENG placement.
Placement Exam Results: Test Score Recommendation It is highly recommended that you enroll in ESL courses at your level, based on your placement results. Speak with a counselor if you have any questions.
0-Units vs. Units Non-Credit (0-unit) ClassesCredit (unit) Classes • Free(except must pay Health Fee) • Not eligible for financial aid • CANNOT fulfill a pre-requisite (e.g. completing 0-unit ESL 340 does not clear ESL 350 prereq) • No record of college classwork. No grades. • Limited seats available. Open-Entry/Open-Exit allows late add. • Unit classes cost between $46.00 (CA Resident) -or- $258 plus the capital outlay fee of $30 (CA Nonresident) • Eligible for financial aid • May fulfill a pre-requisite (e.g. passing grade of C or higher in ESL 340 clears ESL 350 prereq) • Record of college classwork. Grades. Letter grade of A, B, C, D, F or P/NP notation. • For students who need evidence of classwork, or are interested in earning college credits towards a certificate, degree, or transfer.
ESL Writing Course Placement: • What if you placed in ESL 335, 336, or 345 and you disagree with your ESL writing course placement? • Take the ESL test again after 3 months • Take the ESL Writing Sample Appeal • (The appeal is FINAL and only available to Credit ESL students)
Class ScheduleHow to find the current class schedule online First, go to the Saddleback College website homepage: www.saddleback.edu • Scroll down and select “Class Schedule” • Select the appropriate term (Fall, Spring, or Summer) • Select English as a Second Language (ESL) c c c • Note: ESL classes are divided into different categories. If you cannot locate the class you want, check a different category or ask a counselor for assistance. Some ESL classes may show an AVID symbol. You are able to register for these classes as well.
