  1. DIGITAL CURATOR TRAINING PROGRAMME Day 2 Sourcing stories and curation ethics Trainer: Insert name(s)

  2. OVERVIEW OF THE TRAINING DAY • Recap on the topic of ‘What is curation?’ • Explore ways of gathering digital stories and places where we can find existing digital stories • Co-create a set of best practice guidelines to adopt when curating stories • Independent task: Gathering 5 x stories on a specific topic/issue/theme

  3. FINDING AND GATHERING STORIES: PRACTICAL TASK In small groups, you will explore an existing source where you can find digital stories or a technique you can use to gather digital stories. STORY BANKS AND SOURCES • There are many online platforms where you can find digital stories, such as: • Social media platforms • News websites • Story banks/depositories/archives STORYTELLING TECHNIQUES • There are also many techniques you can use to gather digital stories, such as: • Photo/image-based stories • Interviews • Personal monologues

  4. What types of stories could we find/gather through these sources and techniques? What is the content of stories found or gathered through these sources and techniques? FINDING AND GATHERING STORIES“What did we learn?” How could the technique or source be useful for story curation? Why? What did you find interesting or challenging about these sources or techniques? What do we know now that we didn’t know before?

  5. CURATION ETHICS: CO-CREATING A BEST PRACTICE GUIDE • In small teams you will explore different areas of curation ethics. We will then collate your ideas on these areas into a best practice guide. • Storyteller permissions –who has told the story and how have they shared it? • Story authenticity –should we maintain the individual stories’ original voices and ideas, and if so how? • Curation purpose –why are we curating the stories and what is the impact of this? • Curation content mobilisation - how do we plan to use the curated content/stories and what issues does this raise?
