Avian Hazard Advisory System Map(BAM) display
New MAP(BAM) • The Avian Hazard Advisory system has upgraded to a new windows 2007 web server. • The new web server requires new ESRI software to display the MAP(BAM), ArcGIS server 9.3. But only our server requires the software, the user should not have to install anything. • The MAP(BAM) had to be completely re-designed. • As with the old map, this map only shows the historical risk based on breeding bird surveys and the Christmas bird count. No data from NEXRAD, our soaring model or our migration model are included.
New Features • The new map looks very different than the old map and it has some new features as well. • The new map size is adjustable for larger (or smaller) monitors. • When a layer is turned on, the map will automatically be added, without using a “refresh” button. • The identify tool will identify any layer, without having to make a layer “active”. • New tools include: full extent, back extent, forward extent, magnifier, measure and overview map. • A variety of “base” layers are available.
AHAS web page The starting web page is unchanged. Make your area and time period selections and then click the MAP(BAM) button.
MAP(BAM) The selected area is highlighted in cyan. This color does not represent any risk, it only highlights the selected area. The layer the area is from is also turned on. For SR038 the SR polygon is turned on. There are 3 layer groups in the “Map contents” section. The “selection” group shows the selected area. The BAM group has various layers including the polygon layer for the selected area and the base maps. The Risk group contains the BAM risk layers. The risk layer colors are green = low, beige=moderate, red=severe.
Tools There are various tools available in the upper left and right of the map. In the upper left corner there are pan and zoom tools. In the upper right there are zoom tools and an identify tool. The back extent tool will change the map to the previous extent and the forward extent tool will change it back to the last extent. The magnifier will magnify the area within the magnifier. Just move it over the area you want to view. The measure tool will measure area and line distance in various units.
Risk layers The risk layers are the same layers used in the previous map. In the Map Contents section, each biweek is displayed in the “Risk” group. Within each biweek group, the daily periods are listed.
Base Map layers Various groups are available under the “USA Base Map” section. Cities(points) Landmarks(points) Highways Railroads Airports Water Landmarks(areas) City(areas) State-County Outlines Background
