About the teachers: • Ms. Kush • Graduated from A&M in 1976 • 8th year at Jennie Reid • Teacher for 37 years • Live in League City • Four children ages 33-19 • Youngest son currently attending NYU • 1 granddaughter • Miss Bales • Graduated from UHCL in 2004 • 10th year at Jennie Reid • Teacher of the Year 09-10 • Live in Houston with my two dogs (Tuna and Daisy) • Currently working on my Master’s Degree • Will graduate in December
School Rules • Add pic of Friday conduct sheet… • Talk about expectations. • Please ensure that your child doesn’t bring toys or gadgets to school to avoid any unnecessary distractions.

Details and expectations Your child should read at least 30minutes/night Math homework will come home every evening Math/Science Vocabulary will begin next week-words come home Monday, test on Friday Spelling words will come home Monday- words posted on the website on Friday prior Spelling test on Friday You can visit our websites for more info- links can be found on the school webpage Library day is Monday and Wednesday
Reader’s and writer’s workshop • Each student has a Writing and Reading Notebook. Reading and Writing are essential components to student success. Students reflect on books, characters and story elements. Writing is a form of expression and students will write almost daily on a wide range of topics. Published work can be found hanging outside our room for others to view. Please encourage your child to read nightly as reading is essential. Also students can write at home and share with you or bring to school. Students will keep a Reading Log of the books that are read and of course the AR keeps track of success in testing on books read. • READ READREADREADREADREADREADREADREADREADREAD
Roadrunner Café Lunch 11:40-12:10 Prices: $1.00 breakfast $2.00 lunch lunch system (students will need to learn their ID numbers) Snacks at lunch (Tuesday & Thursday only) 30 minutes lunch
AcceleratedReader 3rd Grade Goal is 30 points per semester AR is not just about points, but about encouraging students to become active, life-long readers. AR is not our reading program, but an incentive program. VOCABULARY learning is crucial in all levels The AR committee will meet soon to establish proper guidelines and procedures. Parents stay tuned for more AR information, BUT START encouraging your child today
Daily Grades: 75% Major/Assess: 20% Homework: 5% Grades and Homework Homework is an effective tool in developing responsibility, study habits, and skills. It is an extension of the learning process and involves the home in the child’s curriculum. Please encourage your child to do their homework regularly and return it on the due date.

Attendance Attendance is very important! We need students here 100% of the time when possible! Please avoid taking your student out early so that he/she won’t miss important instructional time.
Transportation changes • Please communicate all transportation changes in writing or through email. • We can not take the word of the students. • If an unplanned change should occur, please call the office. They will inform the teacher. • Please don’t leave a voicemail about changes in case the teacher is absent and unable to check messages.
Friday Red Folders Please check your child’s Friday folder every weekend. Clear out the graded papers. Sign the conduct sheet. Sign any work that is requesting a signature. Return folder and signed papers on Monday. Blue Daily Homework Folders Your child will bring home a Homework folder each night. Please be sure your child complete their homework and return it in their Homework folder the next day.
