  2. Our World The big idea is for you to know how much the Europeans changed the world in the 1500s but first... You have to know what that world was like in order to understand that big change the Europeans wrought

  3. Our World We will discuss the major trade, political forms, and society of: * Ottoman Empire * Mughal Empire * Safavid/Persian Empire * Chinese Empire * Songhai Empire * Aztec, Mayan, Incan Empire

  4. Capitol City of Iran and/or the Persian Empire? Tehran

  5. Safavid Empire was bound on the west by the Ottoman Empire and on the east by the Mughal Empire of India

  6. Most Safavids were Sunni Muslims but in 1400 they switched to the Shiite sect of Muslims...they would be/are prosecuted by the Sunni Muslims ever since

  7. The man responsible for conquering and unifying the Savafid Empire Ismail or Esmail he is a Shiite Muslim

  8. Safavid or Persian Empire all the way to India...

  9. Ismail/Esmail too the ancient title of Shah which means king

  10. Ismail/Esmail was considered saint as well as Shah. Persians were forced to convert to Shiite Muslim This separated the Safavid/Persian Muslims from the Sunni Muslims who were more Turk or Arabian

  11. The Muslims of Persia/Safavid were called the Shiite Muslims

  12. The Muslims of the Arab and Ottoman Empires were called Sunni Muslims

  14. The leader of the Safavid Dynasty in 1587 Shah Abbas He reformed the military to make it more like the mighty army of the Ottomans He allies his empire with the Christian European countries. He built the city of Isfahan/Esfahan- major city in the Muslim world. Iman Mosque is located in Isfahan.

  16. Finally, in 1794 the Persian Empire was seized by one family which would rule it until 1925! Qajar Dynasty

  17. The kings in Iran were called Shahs In the 1940s and 1950s, For the United States and Western Europe, the Shah transformed Iran into a country that was exclusively devoted to containing the spread of communism in its surrounding neighborhood
