Morning Arrival 7:30 am Tardy Bell 8:05 am Cars/Trucks: Enter into the first driveway to the side of the school and follow drive. In the morning it is a single lane only. Students are dropped off at the cafeteria doors. They will be greeted and should enter to eat breakfast or join their grade level in their homeroom. (W. Lake Houston over flow traffic should turn onto Lakeshore Landing Dr. and wind around.See map. Students should enter the cafeteria and eat breakfast or travel to their respective hallways. Buses: Buses enter through the second driveway to the front of the school. Students will unload, be greeted, and make their way to the cafeteria for breakfast or to their respective hallways. Bikers/Walkers: Students who walk or ride their bike are to follow the sidewalk to the front of the school. There are two bike racks. We suggest locking bikes to the rack. Students will enter the front doors, be greeted, and make their way to the cafeteria for breakfast or their respective hallways.
Afternoon Dismissal: 3:20 pm • Cars/Trucks: Enter into the first driveway to the side of the school. In the afternoon it is a double lane with a staff member directing traffic. (W. Lake Houston over flow traffic should turn onto Lakeshore Landing Dr.) Please have the car rider sign in your front window so our car rider caller can radio your child’s name into the gym. Students who are called will exit the gym and be waiting with a staff member at the next available cone. An adult will walk your child/ren across if you are in lane 2. Late car riders will be sent to the office for pickup at 3:45pm. Please do not walk up. • Buses: Buses enter into the second drive to the front of the school. Students form bus lines in the hallways. They are monitored by staff until their bus arrives. When called, the staff member will walk the bus line out and monitor them while loading buses. • Bikers/Walkers: Students who are riding bikes or walking will wait in a hallway until the dismissal bell. Two staff members will accompany bikers and walkers down to the end of the sidewalk, all together to dismiss. Parents’ please do notpark at this location so that we can keep the bus traffic moving.
Snacks • Cafeteria sells snacks during lunch. If you do not want your child to purchase snacks, you may contact the cafeteria at 281-641-3508 and request a lock to be placed on your child’s account. • We will have a healthy snack break each day. Suggestions include: Fruit, chex mix, cereal, etc. Please do not send chips, candy, cookies, donuts, or snacks that require a spoon, etc. • You are encouraged to send a sport top water bottle daily.
Daily Behavior Log Lakeshore Elementary
Daily Folder • Please sign or initial the conduct log daily. • Please send any correspondence via daily folder, we do not check backpacks. • A monthly reading log will be included in the daily folder. • Your child is expected to read aloud for a minimum of 15 minutes per day. • Record the title of the book on the reading log daily.
Curriculum night • Please plan to attend First Grade Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 6:00 in our classroom. • We will be covering grade level academic expectations, activities, and homework. • It is not necessary for your child to attend but you are welcome to bring him/her.
Reading Benchmarks • Each child will receive reading instruction daily in a small group which is based on their individual reading level. This ensures that each child is challenged yet not frustrated. • Your child’s reading level is frequently assessed both formally and informally. Reading groups change according to your child’s needs. • More information will be provided on Curriculum Night
Word Study (Spelling) • We will be implementing the Words Their Way program. This program develops phonemic awareness (identify and manipulate sounds), phonics, vocabulary, and spelling at your child’s developmental level. • Your child’s developmental level will be assessed with a spelling inventory. Word study groups will be based on developmental levels. • More information will be provided on Curriculum Night
Math • Humble ISD has adopted a math program called Investigations. This is a hands on approach to learning mathematical concepts. • We are teaching additional math concepts during calendar and through science daily. • More information will be provided on Curriculum Night
Grading Procedures Scores - Definition • 1- Below Basic- working below grade level • 2- Basic- beginning to meet • 3- Proficient- regularly meets • 4- Advanced- consistently meets and often exceeds • If your child has a 1 or a 2 on an assignment, please review at home. • Not all work will be graded
Homework • Each month your child will receive a homework menu with a variety of activities to choose. This menu will be stapled inside your child’s homework notebook. Homework will begin the week of Sept. 10th. • Homework will be checked every Friday.
Birthdays • Cupcakes will not be allowed due to the high volume of food related allergies. • In lieu of cupcakes, you may send any Non-Edible treats for your child to pass out at the end of the day. (Ex. Party favors, pencils, erasers, etc,). • Ice cream may be purchased through the cafeteria manager two weeks in advance. Students can not purchase ice cream for other students from their own account. Separate payment is required. • District policy prohibits birthday invitations from being distributed at school. We are required to confiscate birthday invitations.
Specials Schedule • Monday- P.E • Tuesday- P.E • Wednesday- Music • Thursday- Computer • Friday- Science/Art • We will go to the library every Friday. Please make sure your child brings back his/her library book so they may check out a new one.
Information • Please complete the information sheet before you leave. • I will be using this sheet of paper for the first day of school. • I will email you prior to the first day of school. Please respond to my email so I am ensured that I have your proper email address. • Email will be used as our primary form of communication in an effort to go green.
Activity Fund • An activity fee will be collected mid September. • This will be used for the field trip
PTO • PTO will be collecting money for the winter party and the friendship party. A PTO packet will be sent home after the first week. • Tonight, please sign up if you are interested in becoming a room parent or making copies in the copy room. Other volunteer opportunities will be listed in the PTO packet.
