RHYTHM COMPETITION GAME • Objective: Identify and demonstrate Rhythmic Notation. • WEEK 1-Identifying notation! These games have many variations. • Divide the students into two teams. • Variation 1 • Call out the note value and students write the note on the board. First one with the right answer get’s a point. • Variation 2 • Show a picture of a note. First team to identify by writing the name get’s a point. • Variation 3 • Fill in the blank with 4 beat patterns. • Variation 4 • Use a staff and students name the notes.
RHYTHM COMPETITION GAME • WEEK 2 -Objective: Identify and demonstrate Rhythmic Notation. • Use the white board to make two sets of 2 measures. Mark the beats and draw a bar line to divide the measures. • 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 (make another set here) • Divide the class into two teams. (Boy vs. Girls) • Play a four beat rhythm pattern. • Two students from each team run to the board and write the pattern. • Alternatives: • Give each team a set of flashcards with individual notes. Post on board. • You can also divide the class into smaller groups. Give each group a white board. Whoever has the right rhythm first get’s the point.
4th grade • Say and Play-RHYMIC NOTATION CENTERS • WEEK 3 • Work in Cooperative Groups to practice Rhythmic Notation • 1-Create a Rhythmic pattern with sponge cards. Or use white board staffs to write one four beat pattern. Identify notes by name and value. • Play and Say in group. • 2-Write rhythmic sentences. Identify note name and value. • 3-Matching games • 4-Xylophone-play the note cards-quarter notes • Work with a partner. One student plays the steady beat on rhythm sticks. The other student plays the note card. • 5-Say and Play the rhythm cards –test your group and name the notes and values.
4th grade • WEEK 4 • Sing: Stomp Your Feet if Your Character Counts • SING and Discuss: “I Have a Dream”, “Free at Last” MLK • Say and Play-RHYMIC NOTATION • WORK IN COOPERATIVE GROUPS • Answer the questions using an eraser pen-choose one person to be the scribe-everyone takes a turn answering the questions. ( PRACTICE EXAM) • Play the Rhythm Competition Game
