He had read it in middle school and wanted to read it again. He graduates in 3 weeks, so I thought it would be a great gift. Loved the price; just wish shipping were cheaper, but that's the post office's fault!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great ReadBy Shane TollbergThe novel First Shot by Walter Sorrells was published by the Penguin
Group in the year 2007 in New York. I recommend this book for many reasons but the main reasons why are because it is suspenseful and keeps you guessing until the end, it has a good plot line, and also is a very realistic story that some people can maybe relate to. The novel is about a boy that is a senior in high school at a prestigious private school called The Arsenal. The school used to be a military school but now is just a regular private school that keeps some formal traditions from when it was a military academy. The main character named David Crandall is the son of the headmaster of the school and his mother was murdered a few years before the book takes place. They never found out who murdered her so early on in the book the police chief reopened the investigation. David was really curious on who murdered his mom so he and his Misty Cleary started investigating on their own to try find out who the murder was. At the school they have a ceremonial team called the dartington rifles that are made up of nine students who are the heads of different clubs at the school and then the tenth member is the best shooter in the school. At the end of the school year the ten members have a shooting competition and the top shot out of ten shots at 50 yards wins first shot. First shot is also a ceremonial tradition at the school were at the graduation ceremony the winner of the completion shots a metal target 50 yards away to begging the graduation ceremony. In conclusion I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspenseful, mysterious novels and also to people who want to read a book that keeps you interested until the end. If you want to find out who murdered Davids mother go and pick up this book and read it until the end. Two years ago, David Crandalls mother was murderedand with little evidence, no witnesses, and no motive, the crime was left unsolved. Now a high school senior, David is unable to shake the sense that someone knows more than theyre letting on. His suspicion deepens as he uncovers clues to a scandalous family secret involving embezzlement. But when he spies his father burying an old rifle in a deserted lot during a rainstorm, suspicion turns to fear. Is his own father the killer? Critically acclaimed author Walter Sorrells crafts a shocking and fast-paced thriller inspired by a localnewspaper headline. Captivating on several counts...a fast-paced intriguing read for genre fans. -Booklist, starred review
