Rationale • Line between builder and developer crossed long ago. • Each party has exclusive strengths e.g. UDI with its “land brand” and chapter structure, GTHBA with its broad base, high profile, financial strength and tri-level structure.
Benefits • Better resourced, stronger, more unified voice • Common front to government, media, public • Collective voice will be stronger than individual voices – the whole will be greater than the sum of its parts • One-time membership boost (up to 122 members) • One-time and ongoing positive financial implications • $450,000 (est.) one-time cash injection to Special Issues Fund

Councils Renovators Council (EXISTING) • deals with renovation-specific issues, particularly educational, with the primary focus being professionalism Associates Council (EXISTING) • deals with issues specific to non- builder/developer/renovators, particularly educational. • Associates Awards • Model sub-contract
Chapters • Two-way vehicle for local government liaison and advocacy • Chapters • Halton • Peel • York • Durham • Toronto • South Simcoe (the new frontier)
Governance Changes • Based on current by-laws • Board of directors increases from 32 to 34 • Executive committee increases from 8 to 11 • UDI to nominate 4 representatives to serve through 2007 on executive and board, open elections thereafter • Urban Land and Builders Council chairs on executive committee
Staff • Staff complement increases by 2 dedicated professional lobbyists. • Government relations department to be comprised of four full time lobbyist plus additional corporate and volunteer resources.
Interim Name Preserves two strong brands while committee of three representatives from each association determine a permanent name for the new association.
How we stay the same • New organizational and legal structure built entirely on GTHBA platform • by-laws • letters patent • governance model (elections) • GTHBA headquarters • GTHBA staff remain in place under chief executive officer Stephen Dupuis. • Bob Finnigan, our first vice-president will be 2007 president of GTHBA-UDI • OHBA and CHBA
Motions • That the GTHBA-UDI General By-Law Number One be amended to provide for a general proxy. • That the GTHBA membership endorses the merger with the Urban Development Institute/Ontario, under the interim name GTHBA-UDI, One Industry, One Voice pursuant to a certain integration agreement made between the parties dated August 23. 2006
