  6. Curriculum • Common Core • Emphasis on reading strategies and skills (Houghton Mifflin) www.eduplace.com • Different themes – • Courage, What Really Happened (mysteries), Growing Up, Discovering Ancient Cultures, Doers and Dreamers, New Frontiers: Oceans and Space

Reading • Anthology – excerpts from novels • Leveled Readers (small group) • Practice skills of theme • Predicting, noting details, summarizing, cause/effect, etc. • Novels • Hatchet, Small Steps, Island of the Blue Dolphin, Maniac Magee, Tuck Everlasting, & The Phantom Tollbooth • Supplemental reading / handouts

  8. English / Writing • Grammar & word work • Quizzes, worksheets, Daily Language Practice (DLP), vocab work • Writing pieces (persuasive, informational, personal narrative, poetry) • Graded with PSSA rubric

Homework • Homework listed daily on Blue Dolphin Calendar • Homework buddies listed in assignment book • Emphasize recording HW everyday • Graded • 2 points for completed daily assignment • Sometimes collected for grade • Actual grade (“homework”) in grade book (weekly) • School Homework Policy • Check out information on website • 3 missed assignments = misconduct & lunch detention

  10. Accessing grades online Can self register online at www.cdschools.org by clicking the quick link for Home Access Center - “hac” (as long as you had provided your email address on the emergency contact sheets).  If problems, call office.

  24. 4th period – Enrichment Time • If you have a student in band, orchestra or choir – please go to the auditoriumto hear from the music teachers about their performance classes! (should be on schedule already) • Encourage you to take a self-guided tour of the building, or make your way to the cafeteria for refreshments.  • Booths such as PTA, etc.
