  2. Purpose and Endstate Purpose Establish an integrated co-curricular program focused on Citadel Values and Respect as part of the character development process of The Citadel Experience Desired Endstate The Citadel Values and Respect Pilot Program established within SY 06-07 activities

Values and Respect Program Status • The V & R program has captured the attention of The Citadel community • Short term effects and impacts can be viewed through the program framework : • Education and Training • Institutional Communications • Policies and Procedures • Support Services and Resources • Assessment

Education and Training • V & R education and training began with the Fall Sports Cadre (19 July), continued through 4th Class Orientation, • and is integrated throughout the rest of the semester • Some adjustments have occurred based on need and scheduling • Next major training block on 30 Sept • 2nd Semester Plan will be based on assessments & established before Thanksgiving Holiday Break

  5. Institutional Communications • The Citadel will maintain deliberate communications to promote the Values and Respect Program to all of our constituents. Includes the following actions to date: • Followed the Communications Plan for release of the V & R survey results • Established link on The Citadel Home Page with key information. (Received over 8,000 combined hits to the V&R web links) • Responded to several media request to include CNN interviews on 24 & 25 Aug (Two cadet panels along with live and taped interviews) • Published Brigadier article by the President • Completed follow-up Commander’s Call sessions between the 1st Class and the President (Bn Level class) • Citadel Staff has responded to a number of requests for more information

  6. This institutional focus provides the momentum to review and revise some of our institutional policies, procedures, and practices. These include: Review and updating of Sexual Assault/Harassment policies and procedures Use of available time to support increased education Design of cadre training and freshman orientation/military training As the program evolves, future actions in this area will become more defined. Policy and Procedure Review

  7. To support V & R we will continue to integrate various institutional assets and adjust resource requirements. For example: We will harness the professional experience of our faculty and staff members to serve as facilitators for selected instruction. Nationally known external speakers and lecture groups will supplement the instruction effort on specific topics throughout the year. We will work closely with The Citadel Foundation to develop additional gift funding and endowment opportunities to help meet future needs. Support Services and Resources

Assessment • Ongoing and summary assessments of all areas are critical to determine program impact • Assessment efforts include: • Cadet/Faculty/Staff focus groups • Analysis of various Cadet surveys • Review of instructional design and training • Results of assessments will be tied in with future communications efforts
