Avoid vague statements which cannot be checked against the actual system once you have completed it. • A(v) Producing System and Design specifications. • System Specification Hardware • System Specification Software • Design Specification – Sketches, Formulas, Macros. • Test Plan • Work Schedule. Controlled Assessment B(i)Meeting the user needs Look at the task requirements and ask yourself specifically how will your chosen ICT tool meet these. So much more detail here and use proper terminology and proper names of the individual tools you are going to use. B(i) Audience and Purpose Answer the questions in the workbook in report form with as much technical detail as you can. B(ii) Software features Talk more about some of the advanced features that you will use in your software to create your solution – Software name are things like Excel, Word, Access etc. Basically demonstrate your understanding of their use and why you would use them. B(iii) Producing a solution Create your solution. Making sure that you are screenshotting each major step and documenting this in an “Implementation log” Also mention about any changes you have made to your design through the process. Update your work log and add subheadings throughout your implementation log.
Controlled Assessment • B(iv)Alternative solutions • Mark band: • Models/designs alternative solutions using a wide range of software applications and their features demonstrating knowledge of how changes in both the data and the rules governing any computer model can affect the final solution • If you have not mentioned any changes to your design in your implementation log – make sure you highlight them here. • Show where you have made alternative choices from your design to produce your final solution – for instance – used forms instead of macros, used different formulas when you realised it was a more efficient way of doing things, created a different layout for your screens etc…
Controlled Assessment B(v) Testing Use the handbook here to create a test plan of your final solution. Use the table suggested. Make sure you show screenshots for before and after and note the test data that you used. B(vi) Review the design. Use the handbook as a check list – but no need to write anything up here.
Controlled Assessment Section C A great deal of this should be demonstrated in your implementation log. Only add separate sections if this is not covered or go back and amended your implementation log C(i) Designing a file or data structure. Make it clear that your evidence shows the data structures you have used. Justify their use. Make sure you have also created clear data dictionaries for your design in section A C(ii) Selecting appropriate data Show evidence of how you will check that your data is accurate and how you have formatted it to make it more user friendly for the audience. Have you sorted your data in any way. Again the validation in your data dictionaries in section A may help with this.
Controlled Assessment Section C C(iii)Creating a software model. Demonstrate how your model’s results can change when different data is put in. Make sure there are formulas in place that will allow this to happen. Think of some What if situations that you can test in your model. Use page 94/95 in the handbook. Show evidence of these working and their conclusions with screenshot evidence. C(iv) Use the checklist on page 97 to check your work. You will not need to write up anything for this section.
Controlled Assessment Section D D(i) Presenting your work Use the checklist on page 100 to verify your work. There is not write up for this section. Make sure that any additional documents, printouts from the system are presented appropriately for the audience. Look at the mark scheme on the assignment under “Present their Solution” against your work.
Controlled Assessment • Section E • E(i) Work log • Make sure this up-to-date and show the 20 hours logged. Write in detail any issues that arose, in your log. • E(ii) Strengths and weaknesses • Use the questions on page 104 as a guide. • E(iii) Design success – write about the following in detail. • Look at the design objectives, go through each one and state if it has been met or not. • What limitations have occurred when creating the system and what has been or could have been done to deal with them • Evaluate your own and other’s contribution to any group activities – provide constructive feedback on your work and others. • Remember this is an evaluation so make sure your language is more evaluative rather than descriptive.
