Project Outcomes Report for the General Public America COMPETES Act requirement specific to NSF Report serves as a brief summary prepared by the PI specifically for the public, describing the nature and outcomes of the project Effective for new awards/funding increments to existing awards made on or after January 4 PIs and co-PIs will use Research.gov to prepare and submit this report using new report submission service that will be availible in Research.gov later this summer Required in additional to final project reports which will continue to go through FastLane Will be posted for public with other award information in Research.gov’s Research Spending and Results Service 2 2 2

Notification • PIs, Co-PIs, and SPOs are notified that an award is due via: • Research.gov Project Outcomes Report Dashboard (PIs, coPIs) • FastLane Project Reports system • Due and Overdue email notifications
PI receives email notification that a POR is due or overdue Project Outcomes Report for the General Public is Now Due! To: Active SROs, active PIs, and all active Co-PIs CC: Managing Project Officer (MPO) Project Outcomes Report for the General Public is Now Due Your Project Outcomes Report for the General Public is due for the following award: Project Title: PI: Awardee: Award Number: Award Expires: Program Officer Name: Program Officer Email Address: Program Officer Phone Number: • Same logic for due/overdue notices for the Final Project Report (FPR) will be used for the Project Outcomes Report (POR). • Due/overdue notices will be sent to Principal Investigators (PIs) and any active Co-PIs on the award with a copy to the Sponsored Project Officers (SPOs), Program Officers (POs) and Administrative Officers (AOs). • FPR Logic • - Due notice sent on 1st due day • - Thereafter one due notice is sent each month until the POR is submitted or becomes overdue • Overdue notice sent after 1stoverdue day • - Thereafter 1 notice is sent every two weeks • All emails are stored in eJacket’s eCorrespondence Module 6

PI accesses the Award and Reporting Functions module in FastLane Select to get to Awards and Reporting Functions module Added a new link called ‘Research.gov Functions’. Link will take user to the Research.gov Login Page. Text will be added letting user know that they can access POR in Research.gov. 8
PI accesses the Project Reports System (PRS) Select to get to PRS module Added a new linke that takes user to the Research.gov Login Page. 9
PI sees a list of their awards with reporting requirements Tab was renamed to Annual/Final/Outcomes Reports Select the award number to view report statuses 10
PI sees a list of their PORs Tab renamed to ‘Annual/Final/Outcomes Reports New note added here so that PIs and users logging in using the OAU pin know that only the PIs and co-PIs can submit the POR Select to create report • A new Project Outcomes Report table will be added. • The ‘NSF Report Status’ will be “Will Not be Reviewed” since PO review is not required. • The Create/Edit link on the POR line will take user to Research.gov Login page. 11

Report Preparation and Submission • PIs will submit a brief (200 – 800 words of content) report and have the option to upload images via the new reporting tool in Research.gov • Report is posted publically to Research.gov with a disclaimer: “The Project Outcomes Report for the General Public is displayed verbatim as submitted by the Principle Investigator (PI0 for this award. Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this Report are those of the PI and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation; NSF has not approved or endorsed its content” • Ability to modify a submitted report for up to 30 days after submission. After 30 days, modifications to reports can be made by adding an unlimited number of addenda to the original report
PI prepares their report using the POR tool Click here to upload images • Report should: • Address the intellectual merit and broader impacts of the work as defined in the NSF merit review criteria. • Be brief: 200-800 words • Be written for the lay reader 16

Adding an addendum to a report • Following the 30 day editing period, PIs or Co-PIs who wish to revise their report may do so by adding an addendum • Addenda briefly summarize additional outcomes of awards (up to 800 words) • Addenda cannot be edited • PIs and Co-PIs can submit unlimited addenda
