  2. What is the summer literacy program? • A program that utilizes the assigned Freshman Summer reading texts to support students throughout the summer • The program utilizes strategies and concepts that the students will be using throughout their freshman year at U-High

  3. Part 1: • Students will collaborate, converse and work via the internet • The homebase for our summer literacy bridge program will be on a wiki; you should have already received an email invitation from wikispaces to join • http://uhighsummerliteracybridge.wikispaces.com/ • Students are expected to read the required texts for the Freshman program • Each week students will blog about their reading https://kidblog.org/U-HighLiteracyBridge2013/ And • Complete the weekly assignment

  4. Part II • Once school resumes, each participant in the bridge program will complete a 30 min comprehensive literacy screener with the literacy specialist • These assessment will determine what, if any, services are needed during the school year.

  5. The texts • We will start with Fahrenheit 451 • Reading and work should begin the week of June 3rd • Students can read at their own pace, however work will need to be completed each week based on what they have read • Students should complete assigned work each week. • Reading for this text should be completed by June 29th • We will start reading Hunger Games after the work is completed for 451 • Reading and work should begin the week of July 8th **there is a week off/catch up week during 4th of July**
