Job PerformanceRequirement 7-6 Backwards Swim Technique
A The firefighter sits down with the back against the wall with the SCBA centered between the two obstacles. The firefighter’s feet should be positioned out in front of the body as far as possible with the buttocks raised off the ground. This is the key to this technique working.
B The firefighter then pulls shoulders and elbows inward toward the center of the body while pushing backwards through the space.
C Once the neck of the SCBA cylinder is clear of the wall stud, the firefighter should rotate the body and employ a “swim” type maneuver to bring the rest of the body through the obstacle.
