  2. District of Lahaul-Spiti Lahaul-Spiti is a merged district in northern state of Himachal Pradesh. District capital ‘Keylong’ is on the summer-only mountain highway to Ladakh. To the west, the fascinating, little-visited Pattan and Pangi Valleys are an explorer's delight. The Kunzum Pass is the entrance pass to the Spiti Valley from Lahaul. Spiti is also famous as Himachal’s ‘mini-Ladakh’.

  3. Spiti Driven by deep river chasms, this is a high-altitude desert backed by snow-topped mountains and punctuated by tiny villages set in patches of striking greenery.  Tibetan Buddhism is the dominant religion in both Spiti and upper Lahaul, though Hinduism is prominent in lower Lahaul.

  5. Kye Monastery At the height of about 13,500 ft, the Kye monastery is the largest in the valley and holds a powerful sway over the most populous part of the valley around Kaza. The gompa is an irregular heap of low rooms and narrow corridors on a monolithic conical hill. Hundreds of Lamas receive their religious training in this Monastery.

  7. Tabo Monastery Tabo Monastery, located in Tabo Village of Spiti Valley is said to be around a thousand years old. Tabo is noted for being the oldest continuously operating Buddhist enclave in both India and the Himalayas.  The monastery is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India as a national historic treasure of India. Dalai Lama desires to retire in the village of Tabo since he considered it the holiest.

  8. DhankarGompa The DhankarGompa is located at the height of 3,894 meters in he Spiti Valley above Dhankar village. Below the Gompa lies the small village of Shichilling which contains the new Dhankar Monastery, home to about 150 monks belonging to the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.

  10. Kunzum La Kunzum La or Kunzum Pass is a high mountain pass at the elevation of 15,060 ft on the eastern Kunzum Range of the Himalayas. It connects the Kullu Valley and Lahaul Valley with the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India.  The drivers, travelers and passerby seeks blessings of Kunzum mata before undertaking the dangerous journey.

  11. Chandra Taal Lake Chandra Taal is a lake bordered by mountains in Spiti part of the district. It is a tourist destination for trekkers and campers. The lake is accessible on foot from Batal as well as from Kunzum Pass.
