Jasper County Primary School Mission • Jasper County Primary School will prepare Children to Achieve Necessary Educational Skills for individualized success. (CANES) Vision • To provide a knowledgeable, nurturing staff to promote and enhance individual growth in a supportive learning environment. School Arrival • Students should not arrive before 7:20 AM. • Report to Activity Room or Cafeteria • Students dismissed to go to classrooms at 7:50 AM.
Student Attendance • Students are expected to attend school regularly. • Absences excused for illness, death in the family, hazardous conditions and religious holidays. • Present documentation of absence not more than 3 days after returning to school.
Tardiness/Early Check-Out • Arrival after 8:10 AM unless on a late bus • Must be signed in at the front office by an adult • Must remain at school until 11:15 AM to be counted present
Breakfast and Lunch • Menus sent home each month and also posted on district and school websites • Breakfast available at no cost • Lunch may be purchased from the cafeteria or brought from home
Report of Progress • Report cards every nine weeks • After the first nine weeks deficiency reports are sent home half way through the grading period
Parent Conferences • Scheduled two times during the school year (October 19, 2018 and March 22, 2019) • Any time when requested by teacher or parent
Georgia Standards of Excellence • Defines what students should know and be able to do • Rigorous knowledge and skills needed to succeed in college and/or careers • Relevant content and application of knowledge through high-order skills
Areas of InstructionLanguage Arts • Naming and writing letters • Matching letters to sounds in reading and writing • Learning and using new words • Identifying words that rhyme • Reading sight words (100) • Asking and answering questions about a story the teacher reads aloud
Areas of InstructionLanguage Arts (cont.) • Identifying characters, settings, and major events in a story • Recognizing the person, place, thing, or idea that an illustration shows • Participating in discussions by listening and taking turns • Using a combination of drawing, speaking, and writing to describe an event, give information about a topic, or share an • opinion

Areas of InstructionMathematics • Counting objects to tell how many there are • Comparing two groups of objects to tell which group, if either, has more; comparing two written numbers to tell which is greater • Acting out addition and subtraction word problems and drawing diagrams to represent them
Areas of InstructionMathematics (cont.) • Solving addition and subtraction word problems • Adding and subtracting within 5 (Ex. 2+3=5 or 4-1=3) • Correctly naming shapes regardless of orientation or size

Assessment • MAP (Norm-referenced assessment) • Georgia Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills – GKIDS • Georgia Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skill Readiness – GKIDS-Readiness (first 6 weeks of school)
MAP • Universal screening tool • Administered 3 times per year • Computer-based diagnostic assessment • Reading Foundational Skills • Language • Numbers and Operations
GKIDS • Observation of student performance by the classroom teacher • Based on Georgia Standards of Excellence • Provide information about the level of instructional support needed by students entering kindergarten and first grade
GKIDS (cont.) • On-going assessment throughout the kindergarten year providing information about kindergarten students’ developing skills in language arts, mathematics, social/emotional development, and approaches to learning used for instructional planning • Indicator of first grade readiness

Promotion/Retention Policy • Meet 90% of the ELA/Reading standards • Meet 90% of the Math standards • Minimum MAP-Reading score - 25th percentile • Minimum MAP-Math score - 25th percentile • Identify and recall fluently 100 or more sight words • Demonstrate fluency within 5 for addition and subtraction
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Behavioral support is provided for ALL students school-wide. The system of support offers all students • Social skills instruction • Social behavior expectations • Positive reinforcement and praise
