  2. Why are we Here? Is this a Lions Club Meeting? NO But it is a meeting of interested persons in this community.

  3. What will we achieve? • This club has goals and ambitions. • We currently have ?? Members. • We need to strengthen our club so we can continue as a viable service club in this area.

  4. What do you Need ? • Firstly, why did you accept our invitation to join with us tonight? • What information or questions are you hoping to have answered here tonight?

  5. So Who are We? • We are members of the International Association of Lions Clubs • World’s largest service organisation • 1.4 million members • 206 countries around the globe

  6. Who are We? We are committed to the service of our fellow man and to those less fortunate than ourselves Our motto worldwide is “WE SERVE”

  7. Brief History of Lions • Formed in 1917 in Chicago • Founded by Melvin Jones • In New Zealand, Lions began in 1955 • Lions Clubs have Purposes and a Code of Ethics which we strive to live by

  8. Lions International Purposes • To foster a spirit of understanding amongst the peoples of the world • To promote the principles of good citizenship • To take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community

  9. Lions International Purposes • To unite Lion Clubs through friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding. • To provide a forum for the discussion of all matters of public interest except politics and religion • To encourage people to serve their community without financial reward • To encourage high standards in public and private endeavours

  10. Our Club - …………… • Formed …. years ago in 19…., currently has ……. Members. • Made up of people who reside or work in our area. • Membership is open to (both Men and Women insert details). • No age limit - but must be at least 18

  11. Our Programme • Each Lions year starts in July • A Board of Directors is elected by all club members • We have a President, Secretary and Treasurer and others who make up the Board

  12. Meetings: • Two meetings each month – ( on the ------ and ------, ----day’s: • Social, where we either have a Guest speaker ________________________ • Business meeting, where donations, projects and future plans are discussed.

  13. So What Does it all Cost?? • Once-off joining fee of …………. • We have a Dinner …….. per month at $.... for your meal. Bar facilities available at your cost. • We pay a membership fee of $..... per ½ year • Now that’s not over the top to meet new friends and serve your community is it?

  14. Our Priorities • Family comes First • Our work or business comes second • And then Lions We place huge emphasis On having FUN

  15. What we ask from you: • Attend the two meeting per month if you are able • Become involved in one major activity per year (more if you wish) • Meet your financial obligations • If you can do these thing we would love to have you come onboard and join us.

  19. In Summary We believe that being a Lion is a special privilege We can make a difference in the lives of others by giving a helping hand up - not just a hand out Each and every Lion in this room tonight was invited to join our association

  20. As membership is by invitation. We offer this opportunity to each and everyone of you By your attendance here tonight we know that you have our community at heart We acknowledge the fact that you may need to take some time to make your decision
