Higher PE Monitoring and Goal Setting
Monitoring There are many ways of monitoring your progress in training: • Set yourself short term measurable goals (e.g. to get 5 layups in 30s in the speed layup drill) • You should collect data before you begin your programme, then you can compare subsequent data to see if you skill level has increased (SE test & GAOS) • Feedback – This can be external (e.g. from coach), Internal (sensory) or through knowledge of results.
Monitoring When you undertake a practice programme it is important to monitor the effectiveness of your programme. This fulfils a number of tasks: • It provides a record of the progress you are making or not, allowing you to compare your performance • Identifies if training is appropriate and the correct intensity - Your programme can be adjusted if needed. • This can have a motivational effect as you see that you are actually improving, helps maintain focus. • Lets you know where further work is still requiredand identify any other issues.
