The 1% Solution Stewardship Campaign assumes: The tithe or 10% of take home income returned to the Lord is a Biblical mandate. “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house, and thus put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down from you an overflowing blessing.” Malachi 3: 10 Tithing should be the goal of a Christian.
Notable Quotations on Tithing When we surrender every area of our lives-- including our finances--to God, then we are free to trust Him to meet our needs. But if we would rather hold tightly to those things that we possess, then we find ourselves in bondage to those very things. Larry Burkett – Founder of Christian Financial Concepts (born in Winter Park)
Even if all we have is a little, the Lord desires us to be joyfully generous, so that He will have for His church an abundance for every good work. Let us not be selfish or deceived by money. In a real sense, money is not a blessing; it's a test. Francis Frangipane Ministries of Francis Frangipane
There are three conversions necessary: the conversion of the heart, mind, and the purse. Martin Luther
Jesus Christ said more about money than about any other single thing because, when it comes to a man's real nature, money is of first importance. Money is an exact index to a man's true character. All through Scripture there is an intimate correlation between the development of a man's character and how he handles his money. Richard C. Halverson – Presbyterian Minister & Chaplain of the US Senate
The purpose of tithing is to secure not the tithe but the tither, not the gift but the giver, not the possession but the possessor, not your money but you for God. Anonymous
The 1% Stewardship Concept • The 1% Solution is a method of increasing proportional giving. Proportional giving is not about the amount of the gift, but the proportion (or percentage) of one’s income given to the Lord. • First one must determine the proportion or percentage of their income given to the Lord currently. • Secondly, if that percentage is less than 10%, one plans to increase giving 1% of income* each year until the 10% mark is reached. • *While some people tithe gross income, most tithe from personal spendable income - your monthly or weekly take home pay.
Example: If one’s annual take home income is $50,000 and they are giving $1,500 annually to the Lord, then their percentage of giving is 3%. (1% of $50,000 is $500) The goal for 2013 would be 4% or $2,000. The goal for 2014 would be 5% or $2,500 etc.
