JazmineMolina Carlos Velasquez 12/18/13 2~3A Solving A System of Equations
Problem Situation • To raise funds, the bands sells two sizes of the cookie dough, one for 6$ and another for $10. If 205 containers of cookie dough were sold with cash receipts of $1710, how many of each size of cookie dough was sold?
Define Variables J = Number of Small Cookie Dough container C = The Number of Large Cookie Dough container
System of Equations • J + C = 205 • 6J + 10C = 1710
Solution Method • Guess And Check: 6*99+10*115=1744 6*9910*112=1714 6*99+10*111.8=1712 6*99+10*111.6=1710
Steps of Solution • Although 99 and 111.5 work, they do not add up to 205. • 99 + 111.5 = 210.5
Solution to the System of Equations • (C, J) • (120, 85)
Check of Solution • 85 + 120 = 205 ☺ • 6(85) + 10(120) = 1710 ☺
Solution in the Problem Situation The Number of Small Cookie Dough containers sold is 85. The Number of Large Cookie Dough containers sold is 120.
