Raindrops to Rivers Electronic Field Trip to a Watershed • DVD with two 15-minute programs one for grades 3-5 one for Grades 6-8 Professional Development Component • Presented on CD-ROM and the web • The PD supports content presented in the Electronic Field Trip to a Watershed with models of exemplary instruction. Components of Project
Two 15-minute programs – one for grades 3-5 , one for Grades 6-8. • The programs contain: • Virtual visit to a watershed, showing Kentucky rivers flowing into larger basins and ultimately, the Gulf of Mexico. • Specific Kentucky geography including urban and rural settings, mountains, rivers and streams, karst, sinkholes, and wetlands. • Illustrates the most common forms of nonpoint (nps) source pollution and what can be done to help eliminate some of its forms.
Purpose • Designed to help teachers plan and implement lessons about nonpoint source water pollution • Varied • Settings • Grade levels • Subject matter • Funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under §319(h) of the Clean Water Act. Administered through the KY Division of Water
Development • Teachers from across the state that had been involved in workshops focusing on nps water pollution • Filmed classrooms demonstrating best practices in environmental education • Teacher interviews • Student work
