News UPO August 9, 2013 Didier Contardo, Jeff Spalding
HI contributions to the three TDR projects From last UPO • Proposals from CMS-HI to DOE-NP to provide support for HI work on the three TDR projects • Trigger • contributions to interim calo trigger for HI running in 2015: algos and boards • proposal already approved – and funds committed • HCAL • Upgrade ZDC front-end and cables, and HF-like uTCA BE • Pixels • Studies for HI with new pixels, work on new DAQ and commissioning pilot blades • Proposals for HCAL/ZDC and Pixels to be submitted by the end of August, along with a status report on the Trigger work • We need the 3 projects to endorse the contributions • HI will present the three at the next UPO on August 9
Next for 2013 RRB Document From last UPO • Timeline (a) Cost Exercise • We are late on the timeline we showed at the last UPO • Pre-final cost input is urgently needed • Guidelines are here https://cms-docdb.cern.ch/cgi-bin/DocDB/RetrieveFile?docid=11981&version=1&filename=Guidance_Phase2_Cost%20Exercise_v1.docx • Status… (b) Text • Also late Document Version 1 • Must be in reader group review by ~Aug 15 • Send to MB/FB Aug 26, present at Taipei September 9 • Send to CERN immediately after Taipei CMS Week • Presentation to LHCC in Sept. Document version 2 • Update with input back from CERN, LHCC and studies for ECFA • Send to RRB after ECFA in early October Still true Still true
October Upgrade Week (Oct 21-25) From last UPO As for Upgrade Week at DESY, propose working sessions/plenaries: • Answer specific technical questions • Define content, and the plan to develop material for sections of the TP • Recall: TP should be in CWR at end of July 2014 Focus on TP, but include LS1 planning and progress of TDR projects * “TP Sections”:TUE • Overall performance • Overall physics goals, reach… build on ECFA work • Simulations supporting emphasis on Triggering (track trigger and bandwidth) and Endcap region (calorimetry and muons). Performance of specific choices should be included in relevant sections • Non-competing parallel-plenary: TC considerations • Radiation, shutdown logistics etc • See next slide for sessions. • Consider vidyo-workshop(s) • between Oct & April UpgWeeks
October Upgrade Week (Oct 21-25) • “TP-sections”: Wed-Thu • Detector Sections • TK (strips, pixels and forward pixels) • FEE (EB, DT, CSC) and Other Systems: Power, cooling… (as much as possible on M&O) • Trigger and DAQ • Calorimeters • Muon Systems • TC: shielding changes, tooling • Note: the timeline and cost information for each of these will be compiled into a dedicated section • We need a draft table of contents and template for the document • And provide guidance for these sections Note: this is everything for the TP content, so including longevity etc, upgrade considerations, design choices and concept, R&D and study plans, cost and scope of work
