Transition • We have already started….!
Week 1 • Thursday 3rd September & Friday 4th September • We invite parents and carers to come into the classroom and to settle their child onto the carpet • Both Year 1 classes will be in the new building on the ground floor • TA will be at the door to welcome them • Children will be collected at 3.15pm from their classroom door
Week 2 • To encourage independence Year 1 will line up in front of their teacher in the Key Stage 1 playground. The teacher will then take them into the class. • Home time will remain the same… • If possible please could you pick up from Year 1 first if you have younger children in EYFS.
Communication • If you would like to speak to us about your child then please feel free to make an appointment for after school • Wendy and Sophie are available in the playground to pass on messages • If it is about your child’s health please contact the school office • School trip money to be given to school office
Maths • 2nd year of the new curriculum • Practical approach- developing conceptual understanding is key of 4 number operations • Number – counting and sequencing to 100, writing numbers in words to 20 accurately • Fractions – finding ½ or 1/ 4 of a shape and of a group of objects • Measuring – standard and non-standard units
English • Letters and Sounds • Handwriting practise • CLPE books and story telling
Reading • Changing books (3 per week) – children are given the opportunity to change their books once a week • They will read with an adult once a week. • Encourage regular reading – ideally 4 times a week and initial/comment in new reading record. • PACT folders expected in school everyday
P.E • Bring in a pair of shorts, t-shirt and trainers to keep in school until half term.
Home Learning • Reading as often as possible! • Home learning for Maths will be via ‘My Maths’ • We will send out a tricky word/HFW book for the children to practise. (Later in the term)
