  4. Personal appearance • Dress for the environment – address industry specific standards • Personal grooming and hygiene

Becoming a contributing team member • Understanding no one works in isolation. • Basic people skills • Show up and be ready to work. • Do standard work per employer rules and expectations. • Continuously improve • Problem prevention • Work – don’t shirk (avoiding or neglecting a duty or responsibility) • Mediation / conflict resolution

Communication Skills • Oral • Written • Giving and receiving oral instructions and job information • Responding appropriately to written materials i.e. general directions, procedures, forms, charts. • Handling workplace criticism • Connecting and collaborating • Recognizing and utilizing diverse perspectives

  7. Applied Math • Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division • Measuring – using a ruler, understanding fractions, decimals, etc. in the workplace • Basic formulas: Perimeter, area, etc. • Workplace calculations – Design specific math application to industry

  8. Self-management / Time management • Managing career and work life • Working with roles, rights and protocols • Self-Awareness • Self Esteem • Goal Setting • Learning Styles • Assertiveness • Anger management

Getting the work done • Planning and organizing • Making decisions • Identifying and solving problems / troubleshooting • Creating and innovating • Working in a digital world • Basic computer operation • Handling emails • Using a copier / scanner / fax machine • Using the internet for research • Local workforce needs: Include industry specific skills training

  10. Sample Program Structure • Four-week program • 96 contact hours • 6 hours per day (30-minute lunch) • Registration - $812 • Books / Materials - $100 • Friday (optional) • Job Shadow / Internship • Subject to Employer (hours, duties, rules) • Graded – based on workplace standards
