General Information Registration Process: Day 1 Grade level assemblies Day 2 & 3 Complete course selection sheet. Day 4 Turn in completed form. ***VERY IMPORTANT*** Registration Dates to Remember: Week of March 10 - 14 Registration with current 9th graders Week of March 17 - 21 Registration with current 10th & 11th graders March 31 @ 6:00 PM Parent info meeting for parents of current 8th graders March 31 - Apr 4 Registration with current 8th graders TBD Verification forms given to students and changes turned in to Student Services May - June 13 Changes subject to administrator approval & $10 fee After June 13 No changes made
General Information (p.1) • Course selection sheets must be signed by both the student and the parent. • Core teachers will have conversations with students about next year’s selection, but the choice is ultimately yours. Students with less than a 70 average will need a parent waiver to sign up for a Pre-AP or AP course. • Please contact your child’s teacher via email if you would like to discuss his or her recommendation. • Students are required to choose AT LEAST two elective alternates in case of scheduling conflicts.
General Information (p.1) • Classes and teacher assignments are based upon the requests we receive. • A registration verification form will be given out in April. Return these forms to Student Services only if you make any changes to your selections. No changes will be made by phone or email. • Mandatory schedule pick up will take place during the summer before school starts. • Some of the registration process will be available to do online this year. Dates and times will be mailed with the last report card.
General Information (p.1-2) • Eligibility requirements for extracurricular activities: • Please check with your coach or sponsor to confirm that all grades earned meet the eligibility requirements. • Valedictorian/Salutatorian: • Only one student with the highest GPA will be named Valedictorian. The student with the next highest GPA will be named Salutatorian. All other students who attain a GPA of 4.0 or are in the top 5% of the graduating class will be considered Honor Graduates.
Credits: Promotion and Graduation (p.2) • Sophomore:6 credits • Junior: 12 credits • Senior: 18 credits • Graduate: 24 credits
Dual Enrollment (p.2) • Allows students to meet the requirements for high school graduation while simultaneously earning college credit. • Jefferson State Community College requirements: Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and meet the minimum ACT score requirement in order to sign up for these classes. The cost will be approximately $350.00 per class per semester. • Students enrolled in DE English both semesters will have the potential to complete two courses (English 101 and English 102) • Students enrolled in DE Precalculusboth semesters will have the potential to complete two courses (Precalculus112 and Precalculus113) • Students should consult their prospective colleges and universities to determine if the credit is accepted by that college or university. Students are required to pay college tuition for dual enrollment classes, which is set by Jefferson State.

Credit Requirements Current 9th graders (p.3) Alabama Diploma • 4 English • 4 History • 4 Math • 4 Science • 1 Physical Education • ½ Health • 1 Career Preparedness (Computer) • 3 CTA Electives (Career Technology, Fine Arts, or Foreign Language) • 2 ½ Additional Credits = 24 credits PLAN(10th)/ACT (11th): Required for everyone else. PSAT is an optional test & it is recommended that students taking Pre AP courses in the 9th-11th grades sign up for it.

Students must take the PLAN as sophomores, ACT with Writing as juniors, & WorkKeys as seniors.

A+ College Ready Program • A+ College Ready is a program working to increase the number of Alabama students taking math, science, and English AP (Advanced Placement) courses, earning qualifying AP exam scores, and attending college. • Under the A+ program: • Supply costs for AP math, science, and English courses has been reduced from $112 to $67. • Students will receive $100 back from every passing score they make in an AP math, science, or English course. • AP courses:Any student registering for an AP course is required to take the AP exam at the end of the year.
