  2. Background • Role of SHAS • Passed June, 2011 (Bill 42) • Modeled after the Caregiver Recognition Act in Australia • Minister of Healthy Living, Seniors & Consumer Affairs • Seniors & Healthy Aging Secretariat

  3. Purposes of the Act • Acknowledge the valuable contributions of unpaid caregivers; • Increase recognition and awareness of caregivers; • Help guide the development of a framework for caregiver recognition and supports.

Implementation using the CGPL • Government to consider and promote general principles re: caregiver supports • Background information & research (overlap) • Common framework to evaluate policy, practices & programs • Consistent approach to new policy & program development • Facilitates discussion & builds partnerships

  5. Implementation using the CGPL • Caregiver Report • Evaluation framework • Tool for creating report 3. Consultations by Minister (caregivers, organizations serving caregivers & others) • Planning-identifying priority areas, questions, recruitment & addressing barriers • Frame caregiver profile & report
