They left England to escape religious persecution. • In 1620 101 Pilgrims set sail on a journey across the Atlantic to Virginia on the Mayflower. • The trip was very unpleasant and took 65 days • Food ran out • Passengers got very sick and one died • A storm blows their ship way off course and they land at a place in the Massachusetts Bay called Plymouth.
The Mayflower Compact • Key Point #2: The Pilgrims made an agreement to create a government and follow its laws called the Mayflower Compact.
