How many credits to schedule? • 6 credits with a study hall each semester • 6.5 credits for 1 study hall scheduled either semester • 7 credits for no study hall GBAPS Policy: “a student must carry a minimum of 6 credits a year” Note: Have I considered what other things are going to require my time?

15. Alternative Class Choices/Prerequisites • Classes only run with enough student requests • Be sure to put four alternate course choices in order of your preference on the back of the course scheduling booklet

16. Should I Retake a Course? • If you earned a “D” or “F” in a class, the same class can be retaken • New grade will replace the lower one • Consider summer school for this purpose

17. SCIENCE • Physical Science and Biology needed for graduation, but a minimum of THREE years of lab science is generally needed for 4-year college admission • Chemistry and Conceptual Chemistry are both college prep lab classes • Chemistry is for those with a strong mathematical background • Students entering some health-related occupations, including programs at technical colleges, will need Chemistry for admission (example: Nursing) • Get recommendation from science teacher

18. Science Reminders… • Chemistry is required before taking AP Chemistry • Physics is not required before taking AP Physics, however, recommended concurrent math is Pre-Calculus or AP Calculus • You must have a C or better in Biology and Chemistry before taking Gen. Anatomy and Physiology at East High School NOTE: Principles of Engineering at East, SW, and West can be counted for science equivalency credit.

English Lang Arts • Required to take some form of English 11 (variations by teacher recommendation only – speak to your language arts teacher) • Some advanced options have summer work • Can also take half credit electives , such as Speech, if interested • Talk to your school counselor for options to make up failures

21. MATH • See math teacher for their recommendation • Pathway is generally a form of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II • Reminder: Algebra I taken in middle school counts as elective credit, not math credit • Geometry taken in middle school counts for math credit for graduation

22. Personal Financial Literacy • Can be taken in 11th or 12th grade • Students create resumes and learn about financial management • Test-out option available in November of each year • Must take class if did not test out by the end of junior year

Physical Education • MUST pass Personal Fitness before taking Strength Training • Classes must be taken over 3 separate years to meet graduation requirements • Can choose to take Phy Ed class for Pass/Fail instead of a letter grade (Must be chosen before the next school year begins) • Can take same Phy Ed elective twice if desired • Please put a number “2” by the phyed class in your booklet that is your alternate selection

World Language—Do I need it? • Some colleges require 2 years but prefer 3 or 4. • If a college does not require world language for admission, it may be required for college graduation. • Technical colleges do not require a world language. • Note: Being proficient in another language may be very useful in any career. What are the new classes or name changes for next year? 1) Microsoft Office- replaces Advanced Office • Can’t take if you already took Advanced Office • Option of taking for grade at NWTC (CEP) 2) Principles of Business 3) Entrepreneurship ***Business Law, Business Leadership, and International Business concepts are being integrated into these two new classes. Can take Principles of Business and/or Entrepreneurship if you already took some of these courses previously.

26. Early Childhood Education • If you want to be in the Child Care Coop your senior year, you would need to pass this class junior year. To take ECE, you must pass one of the Child Development classes first.

27. Nursing Assistant 2-hour block NOTE: Many employers do not hire CNA’s under 18 years old due to certain state regulations. Certification is valid for two years, so if earned at a younger age, you may not be able to use it for as long before being recertified. • CNA certification required for most nursing programs • Requires 32 hours of clinical experience, health tests, fees, state exam and background check • Must maintain a C and not miss more than 8 classes – or risk dismissal • Paperwork and parent meeting required

Advanced Placement Courses • Can earn college credit(s) at 90% of colleges by scoring 3, 4, or 5 on test in May • $89 fee per test (waiver available) • Rigorous curriculum • Teacher recommendation needed Note: The ideal AP candidate is very motivated (A’s and B’s) and understands there will be considerable reading and writing homework.

Application Deadline: March 1, 2013 (10-day grace period for choosing college credit at start of course) **Some courses require two teacher recommendations and personal statement** Tuition: Free for NWTC courses, Reduced for UWGB and St. Norbert College (around $180 for 3 credits) Must report grades when applying to college as a senior

Only mark on sheet if interested. • Two year commitment junior and senior year & summer • GPA of 2.0-2.5 required • 900 hours of work in area of study at minimum wage or above • One hour of college level instruction each day • Earn certificate of occupational proficiency • Must attend a PREVIEW NIGHT Jan. 28, 29 or 30th • Complete application on www.titletown.org and interview to be considered

34. Summer School • Registration materials arrive in late March or early April. Listen for announcements! • Summer Phy Ed will be by “lottery” • Register early to avoid classes filling up • Summer school is not a good option if you will be missing classes • Can earn up to one full credit • Most classes 3 weeks in length/4 hours a day

35. Summer Physical Education • If you plan register for summer phyed, still sign up for a phyed class in place of a study hall. If you pass the summer class, we’ll replace it with a study hall in your schedule. • If you would prefer to replace the Phy Ed with a class (if no study halls are desired) make a note on the back of your course selection booklet as to what you plan to replace the phyed class with if passed in summer.
