Basic facts • The Island fox is also known as (Urocyon littoralis). They’re a cat-sized carnivore, that are descendants of the gray fox which colonized the Channel Islands approximately 10,000 years ago.

nutrition • They have a diet that consist of quite a few things.. They’ll eat things like summer holly, cholla cactus, rose, sumac, nightshade, native deer mice, ground-nesting birds, grasshoppers and crickets.
Habitat & behavior • They’re most active during the day, and they communicate with each other through sight, sound, and smell. • Island foxes can be found in all types on habitats. This includes valley and foothill grasslands, coastal sage/scrub, coastal bluff, sand dune areas, southern coastal oak woodland, island woodland, pine forests and coastal marshes.
Behavioral traits • Visually – dominance or submission is shown in their facial expression & body language • Sounds - They communicate by barking and sometimes growling. • Smell – They rely on their keen sense of smell for it plays the important role in marking territories.
Endangered… • They face a common threat like many other endangered species.. from yearly livestock grazing which replaced the native brush with open grassland and exposed the fox to new predators like the golden eagle.
