Space Exploration DELANIE STRICKLAND ELIZABETH MENZIE N’YAISHA AZIZ GABRIELLE RAJERISON SHEANA FOSTER CHRISTOPHER SUAREZ
Introduction • In our presentation, we will tell you about our topic which is Space Exploration. • We will tell you about space weather, astronomy, space travels, space missions, and space discoveries. • Sit back and enjoy your ride into space.
Dictionary • Unmanning- To take away virility from; emasculate. • Era- A period of time as reckoned from an specific date serving as the basis of its chronological system. • Heliocentric Theory- an theory that proves that the Earth and other objects in space orbits the sun. • Geocentric Theory- an theory that is false that says that the sun orbits every object in space. • Bow shock- an shock between the edge of solar system & the interstellar material from the galaxy.
Brrrrr It’s Cold Up Thurrrrrr! • Sunspots occurs every 11 years.A sunspot is a cooler area on the sun. The sun gives us most of the heat and light we get.
IT’S HOT UP THURR • Space is very hot when you are close to the sun. When you are far away from the sun it is very cold. The farther away you are from the sun,the colder it is. • The sun’s core gives it all of it heat. The core of the sun is 1500000 degrees Celsius. The surface of the is only 5800 degrees Celsius.
MINDZ OF BLAZIN’ MEN • Astronomer Isaac Newton was the founder of the law of gravity. • Copernicus was the founder of the heliocentric theory. He proved Ptolemy incorrect about the geocentric theory. His theory was helped by Galileo. • Claudius Ptolemy was the Greek man who made the first catalog on stars given people information.
MINDS OUTTA THIS WORLD • Johannes Kepler was an astronomer who discovered the motion of planets. His work helped astronomers develop the theory of gravitation. • Aristarchus was the first person known to have claim the sun was the center of the universe. • Galileo made a telescope to prove Copernicus’ theory correct.
1,2,3 Take-Off • In 1981, Columbia space shuttle was the first launched and safe return. It marked the space era. • As you may know, the Columbia space shuttle made an important mission to space and made it safely back to Earth. It didn’t make an safe landing. It exploded 8 minutes before landing. • A space mission is to find an variety of research on space.
4,5,6 Blast Off • The purpose the Apollo mission was to land men on the lunar surface and to return them safely to earth. • The crew included Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins, And Edwin e. Aldrin Jr.. • After a launch, the spacecraft was inserted into lunar orbit.
TO THE SHIP WE GO • Space travel is humanity’s greatest adventure to have the chance to explore the moon, the planets, and the stars. • Radio transmitters track a spacecrafts when it is in space. Other tracking networks are used in following the movements of unmanning each crew member • One problem that has affected many astronauts in space is space sickness. It is caused by the motion of the spacecraft.
WONDERS OF SPACE! • The door opened to space travel in 1957 when the former Soviet Union launched the satellite Sputnik. In 1961 Yuri A. Gagarin, a Russian cosmonaut became the first person in space. • In 1969, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin became the first people to walk on the moon, during the Apollo mission.
OUR PEOPLE DISCOVERED WHAT?! • It was predicted that in January 2006, there would be a stardust shower, over a military base, in Salt Lake City. • The NASA discovery program is the main place for discoveries to be made. • Astronomers have found the largest objects ever detected orbiting the sun, 2001 KX76.
WHAT’S UP THUR??? • Since 1992, over 400 kuiper belt objects (KBO’s) have been detected. • 47 pounds of lunar surface material were collected to be returned for analysts. • On the edge of the solar system there is a bow shock, that at the time, was recently discovered.
Conclusion • The conclusion of our project was that even though these different people mentioned did very different things, they all helped the way that we can explore space. Curiosity, with a hint of luck, great instruments, and people, helped us find all that we have. From a new planet (SUDNA), and the discovery of water on an already existing planet (MARS), the possibilities for discoveries are endless.
