During 6 shifts • Extraction and momentum measurement. • Bruno and James • Some data taking for single resonance crossing. • Jimmy has another talk. • Spent large fraction of time to test EPICS/BPM system • with Graham Cox and Alex Kalinin.
EPICS/BPM • The system is working except a couple of faulty BPM cards. • Two Python software are available • Orbit oscillation for many turns, with averaging function. • Real time ‘Poincare’ plot.
Orbit oscillation BPM in ring (20 turns in this example) BPM in injection line Beam current (sum of 4 electrodes)
Data file Data file is created such as ‘orbit20110819-221241.txt’ data and time #1 - shot number (-1 is for average) #2 - successive cell number #3 - turn number #4 - repeating cell number 0 - 42 #5 - calculated x position #6 - calculated y position #7 - voltage A (EMA-DIA-BPMC-nn:CH1:S1S2.VALA) #8 - voltage B (EMA-DIA-BPMC-nn:CH2:S1S2.VALA) #9 - voltage C (EMA-DIA-BPMC-nn:CH1:S1S2.VALB) #10 - voltage D (EMA-DIA-BPMC-nn:CH2:S1S2.VALB) #11-14 and #15-18 for V1-V4 of x and y
To be done • Rectangular BPM (cell 2, 3, 25, 26) are not calculated properly. • Add V1-V4 (raw data) to the date file.
Real time Poincare plot Update every ~second
To be done • Very useful for injection orbit matching. • However, repetition rate is rather slow (per one or two seconds). • Script made by the control group instead of python should speed up.
Comparison with David’s script with Lecroy scope Cell 1, 2, 25, 26 have rectangular BPM and we know the data is not correct.
Summary • Very pleased to see BPM measurement through EPICS. • Kicker and rf noise do not affect the system. • Need reasonable beam current. • Stop data taking if a beam is far off from the centre. • Up to 255 turns, otherwise the system stops.
