Governor’s Emergency Planning and Preparedness Initiative GOALS include: • Increase quality of communications and preparedness • Hold a real-time exercise by September 1, involving state agencies, municipalities, and the private sector, including utilities
Work Groups Groups meeting to work on the EPPI include: • Exercise and Training • Groups include a wide variety of representatives from local, state, federal government, private sector • Master Scenario Events List (MSEL) Team • Interagency Debris Management Task Force (IDMTF) • Resource Support/Commodities • Mass Care • State of Connecticut Public Safety Interoperability Communications Committee • Technology (Communications) • ARES
Statewide Exercise Briefings • Overview for Executives and Senior Officials on EPPI • Overview for State Agencies on EPPI *Date and Location to be Determined
Statewide Exercise When? June 20th and/or 22nd, 8:00 A.M. – 2:30 P.M. - Preparedness: week leading up to the Exercise - Response: 8:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. - Recovery: 10:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. - Hotwash: 2:00 P.M. – 2:30 P.M.
Statewide Exercise Where? Statewide with primary focus on severe weather event in DEMHS Region 5 *DEMHS Regions 1-4 in a support role to Region 5
Exercise Objectives • Town Emergency Operations Center/ Unified Command • Municipalities activate EOCs, convene Unified Command members, review/update/use plans • Consider Superintendent of Schools and Recovery Coordinator • Practice Local/State Communications Processes / Procedures • WebEOC • Interaction with DEMHS Regional Offices • Communications Flow

Participation is the Key to Success • The exercise has been made a grant deliverable (one less thing to have to do!) • Good communications are critical. Getting together to address issues now (who is responsible for what) will help to spread the workload, and save time and energy when a serious incident occurs • State EOC and Simulation Cell active both days • Situational updates to be provided leading up to the exercise
