Characteristics of Functional Relationships • Problem solve (without blaming) • Express affection and praise • Flexibility (can adapt to different situations) • Communication is the number one priority
Dysfunctional Relationships are… Unhealthy and lack happiness
Characteristics of Dysfunctional Relationships • High conflict (hostile) with one another • Lack of activities and happy time together • Discouragement and disappointment • Jealousy
Characteristics of Dysfunctional Relationships • Lack of open and safe communication • Gender bias (‘men’s work’, ‘women’s work’) • Expectations based on gender • Domestic violence, dating violence
