General Overview • ELIME is a an Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program grant • Promote establishment of library and information science education in the MENA region by partnering with the American University in Cairo and Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco • fund six doctoral students at UNC
Meeting Needs • Locally trained professionals in the MENA region • Up-to-date LIS continuing educationfocused on online materials, digital libraries and curation • Librarians in the United States who are more knowledgeable about Middle Eastern society and culture

Christina Daltoso • Research Interest: Information literacy, including information literacy standards used in the Middle East and how they reflect the needs of their communities. • Current Project: Collaborating with a colleague to look at the gaps in teaching information literacy skills to high school students, compared to what college professors expect their students to know. • Traveled to Jordan during the summer of 2008 for an archaeological dig, and became increasingly interested in Middle Eastern culture and language.
Sumayya Ahmed • Research Interest: Digital Cultural Heritage as it relates to Arabic and Islamic manuscripts.
