Aims of the Workshop • To look at a variety of models to meet a range of situations • Plan your own provision • Opportunity to ask questions
Components of FL • Subject or vocational knowledge, skills and understanding • Functional skills in English, Maths and ICT • Personal and social development learning • Some FL programmes also include work experience within their programme of study.
Functional Skills • Functional skills delivered as part of core • Additional support can be provided especially for assessment preparation
Model 1: In House Provision • Voc. provision on site delivered by school staff • All core can be integrated with mainstream • FL students choose two GCSE or other options • Curriculum: En(3), Ma(3), Sc(5), Pe(1), Re(1), PSDL(1), ICT(1), Voc. Opt (5), Opts (2x2.5) • Plus points: Maximum integration Works for small cohorts FL does not affect rest
Model 2: Full Day of Voc Learning • Vocational learning timetabled for one full day • Core (except ICT & PSDL) can be integrated • FL students choose one GCSE and one special opt • Curriculum: En(3), Ma(3), Sc(5), Pe(1), Re(1), PSDL(1), ICT(1), Vocational(5), Opts(2.5), Special Opt(2.5) • Plus points: • Vocational learning offsite/collaborative • More choice of vocational learning • Integration still possible • FL limited impact on mainstream
Model 3: Independent FL Group • Vocational learning/Alternative provision on two days per week • Can include work experience • Core Science only • One GCSE/other and one special option • Curriculum: En(3), Ma(3), Sc(2), ICT(1), PE(1), PSDL(1), Opt(2), Special Opt(2), Voc. learning/Alt. Ed/Work Experience (10)
Model 3 • Plus points: • Core delivery tailored to needs of FL students and includes functional skills • Wide variety of vocational learning through collaborative working • Alternative provision or work experience to meet individual needs • Minus points: • No integration with mainstream lessons • Needs a larger cohort • Limited GCSE option choices if cohort small
Individualised programmes • Specialised individualised programmes can be arranged • Best delivered through a dedicated unit • Further details available
