Background • No standard data collection for the social care sector particularly private and voluntary sector; • Local authority returns to the Department of Health on social services; • Laing and Buisson survey representing roughly 2% of the sector; • NMDS-SC attempt to fill information “black hole”
Launched October 2005; • Started as a paper questionnaire; • Two parts – organisational/employee; • Developed Excel spreadsheet; • “Carrot and Stick” approach to implementation.
Developed online data collection system went “live” for the sector November 2007; • Developed suite of reports for employers and other stakeholders to underpin workforce planning and development; • Developed software tools to assist larger employers and local authorities to engage with NMDS-SC
Current Regional Position • 1,794 establishments in the system; • 53% CSCI registered establishments have responded; • Estimated 44% of the total sector.
Future Developments • Continued rollout to local authorities; • Improve levels of employee data; • Build on pilot for direct payment recipients; • Encourage employers to update data
