SWOT Analysis STRENGTH
Student Population • Professional competence and expertise of instructors • Effective managerial supports for the centre. • Access to external funding to complement internal sources of fund (Assessment of TETFUND grants) • Cooperation of students.
WEAKNESS • Low awareness and lukewarm attitude of University Community. • Inadequate space. • Students’ cold attitude towards acquisition of entrepreneurial skill. • Non residential status of the University • INADEQUATE AND FAULTY EQUIPMENT
OPPORTUNITIES • Adequate opportunity for training programs. • Ready market for our products. • Myriads of unemployed youths in and out of Ekiti State. • Vast market potentials. • The stages of economic growth. • Chamber of Commerce and Industry wants to partner with the centre. • Collaboration with other institutions.
THREATS • Irregular supply of electricity • Inadequate facility • Possibility of closure of the school or disruption of academic calendar or activities. • Overlapping of Programmes. • Mobility is also a threat to the unit,the Hilux bus approved for the Centre was disapproved. • Inadequate land space for agricultural entrepreneurship
Procurement of necessary equipment for Mass Production and commercialisation of products • Rigorous publicity within and outside the University Community to showcase the products of the Entrepreneurship Centre
The Centre should be adequately patronized y the University Community to provide services such as interior Decoration, Supply of Snacks and refreshments for Senate meetings, Faculty Board Meetings and Departmental Meeting and Carpentry work .
The University should revisit the purchase of Hillux Van that was initially approved by University Council but later converted to the purchase of Joinery and Automechanic Equipments for easy transportation of equipments and materials.
Construction of Workshop for mass production of diverse products from the Entrepreneurship centre. • Timely approval of recommended fees for training of applicants that have shown interest in skill acquisition at the centre
Strong collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture for Agricultural Entrepreneurship as a platform for every student in the University to engage in crop and livestock production. • Synergy with the University Venture is strongly advocated
The centre should be given the contract of sewing the following • Customised EKSU lab coats for science and Engineering students • Uniform for EKSU Staff School and proposed EKSU Secondary School. • Costume for Theatre and Media Arts Students • Design and produce EKSU Academic gowns for permanent ownership by graduants • Accessment of 2014 TETFUND Intervention for the procurement of Equipment (N20M)
SWOT / TOWS Matrix • S-O strategies pursue opportunities that fit well the company's strengths. • W-O strategies overcome weaknesses to pursue opportunities. • S-T strategies identify ways that the firm can use its strengths to reduce its vulnerability to external threats. • W-T strategies make a defensive plan to prevent the firm's weaknesses from making it susceptible to external threats.
