Detente. Marseille Marckens. DEFINITION. Detente is a French word meaning relaxing or easing. Detente was used during the Cold War in 1970′s and did reduce tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Less fighting and argument and more peace and understating. More peace among them.

  2. DEFINITION Detente is a French word meaning relaxing or easing. Detente was used during the Cold War in 1970′s and did reduce tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Less fighting and argument and more peace and understating. More peace among them.

  3. SINGNIFICANCE Detente is applied in a situation of increasing tension between nations. It is a way to find peace through Diplomacy without fighting. That’s what the United State did with the Soviet Union in order to have peace. Detente greatly calmed the tensions of the USA and USSR and encouraged more peace worldwide. Less war and more peace around. Detente is significant to us because it was a great way to bring peace with United States and the Soviet Union. Without it you could have been at war for a long and a of destruction would happen.

  5. Definition Solidarity - Unity or agreement of feeling or action, esp. among individuals with a common interest; mutual support within a group. Officially Independent Self-Governing Trade Union Leader was Lech Walesa

  6. Significance This is significant because it stood up to the communist government at the time. It contributed to the fall of the communist party in other countries as well as its own. It tried for social and political reform and negotiated with the Polish government. The government attempted to ban it but it prevailed and stood strong The leader of Solidarity became President of Poland after the fall of Communism

  8. Definition Russian term Meaning a political movement for reformation within the Communist Party of the Soviet Union during 1980s (1986) Often argued to be the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Revolutions of 1989 in Eastern Europe, and end of the Cold War

  9. Significance The goal was to not end the command economy but rather to make socialism work more efficiently to better meet the needs of Soviet Consumers Because of Perestroika, they believe that the process of a person’s thinking was different and strictly designated

  11. Definition The Velvet Revolution was a non-violent revolution in Czechoslovakia They led to the overthrow of the Communist government which had ruled in that nation for over 40 years. They believe that protesting for what they wanted would be better than war and violence

  12. Singnifence it s significant because a revolution can be made with out the act of war and violence. The Velvet Revolution demonstrated that it was in fact possible to change a government without violence. The social disruption caused by the strikes and demonstrations of the Velvet Revolution led the government to recognize a need for change.
