Stride and Ride Project - a participatory project helping students to improve their routes to & from Priory Secondary School. The main outcome of this project was to decorate the pedestrian bridge over the railway with a series of 24 paintings on environmental issues produced by students from the school.
St Mary in the Market: Local History Project -an interpretation board giving something of the history of Station Street is now in place on the arch beside the Antiques Centre car park. Unveiled by Norman Baker MP with help from Colin Brent who provided invaluable historical checking to ensure the facts were correct LTP is working with Living Streets to continue to press for improved pavements in Station Street
Commercial Cardboard Recycling Working in partnership with Furniture Now! and Lewes Chamber of Commerce, the commercial cardboard recycling scheme is up and running.
Care and Support Groups • Some concerns: • Transport to Hospital • Voluntary support in the home • Future of Lewes Victoria hospital • Youth services in the town A meeting of key providers of Care and Support was held in the town, to discuss the effects of government policies and economic restraints on provision of help for those needing it. From this the current meeting on health service changes came about. Information about the current review of services at the Phoenix centre was circulated.
Local food/ Market Tower Friday market LTP supported the establishment of the weekly Local Produce Market in the Market Tower, now well recognised as a regular element of Lewes life. The partnership is supporting the local food Shopping Challenge
Involving young people: Lewes Priory Students looking at Routes to School Priory School; has undertaken to continue to run the successful ENGAGE event where local groups can meet the school students and explain what they do and explain how volunteering can improve their future development
Fume Free Friday/ transport issues FFF was a piece of commissioned partnership work with Lewes District Council to draw attention to local people of walking to work/ school or using alternative transport to the car on the specified day. LTP, together with the Rural Voices Partnership, organised two meetings to discuss transport issues of concern to the town and the neighbouring villages An ongoing concern is the lack of provision for disabled residents and visitors to the town.
Coffee grounds recycling With thanks to Lewes Town Council, Costa have joined Caffe Nero in being provided the opportunity to recycle their coffee grounds. Other cafés in then town are also doing the same which is an ideal way reduce landfill and improve gardens.
The Parking Review • The Parking Review featured at the last LTP Annual General Meeting October 2010 • ESCC provided answers to questions submitted on the night. See http://lewestownpartnership.wordpress.com/previous-meetings/ for the details • The review continues….
Town tourism survey A meeting was held in July 2010 to explore a partnership approach to developing tourism in the town with the development of the South Downs National Park. A post-graduate student from Brighton University conducted a limited survey of local people’s views of tourism in Lewes. Various tourism based projects have been identified – funding is being sought. Thanks for Director – Dorothy Goldman for organising and supporting the student

New Objects which appear in the new Articles of Association “The objects for which the charity is established are to be performed primarily but not exclusively within Lewes Town and its surrounding areas and are as follows: 1. to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment, including but not limited to promoting reuse and recycling; 2. to advance the arts, culture and heritage in and relating to Lewes and its surrounding areas; 3. to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances; 4. to promote community participation in healthy recreation; 5. to advance education including but not limited to the following areas: a. the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment b. the arts, culture and heritage of Lewes and its surrounding areas c. the benefits of healthy lifestyles and healthy recreation d. the benefits of healthy eating; and 6. to promote such other charitable purposes as may from time to time be determined subject to the prior consent of the Charity Commission for England and Wales.”
Future plans • The adoption of the new articles allow the partnership to apply for charitable status • LTP will work with partners to support new developments in the town • ENGAGE event with Priory School, help will be given with promotion to members • Keep watch on St Anne’s school site developments
