Demonstrative adjectives and pronouns. Adjetivos Demostrativos. Demonstrative adjectives point out persons, places or things. They mean the same as the English This , These , That and Those. Demonstrative adjectives agree in both gender and number with the nouns they modify.

  2. AdjetivosDemostrativos • Demonstrative adjectives point out persons, places or things. • They mean the same as the English This, These, That and Those. • Demonstrative adjectives agree in both gender and number with the nouns they modify

  3. There are three types of demonstrative adjectives: • 1. Este/EstaEstos /Estas • This these • 2. Ese/EsaEsos/Esas • That those • 3. Aquel/AquellaAquellos/Aquellas • That over there Those over there

  4. Este/Estos is used with objects close to the speaker. • Este es mi amigo. Vive en Victoria. • This is my friend. He livesin Victoria. • Ese/esos is used with objects close to the thelistener. • Necesito ese libro cuando terminas. • I needthatbookwhenyoufinish • Aquel/aquellos isusedwithobjectsfarfromboththe speaker and listener. • ¿Tienes hambre? Deseo comer en aquel restaurante. • Are youhungry? Iyouwanttoeat in thatrestaurant.

  5. DemonstrativePronouns • Unlikedemonstrativeadjectiveswhich come before a noun, demonstrativepronounsreplacenouns. • Demonstrativepronouns are usedwhenthenoun has alreadybeenmentioned and isreferredto a second time. • Itistheequivalentto “thisone” or “thatone” in English.

  8. Eachdemostrativepronoun has a neutral form, usedwhentheobject in questionisunknown. (Esto, Eso, Aquello) • ¿Qué es eso? • Es mi almuerzo. • ¿Entiendes esto? • No, nada.
