  3. How Do We Know Which “Church” Is The Body of Christ? God’s Word And The Seed Principle • Luke 8:4-8, 11-15 • Genesis 1:11-12 • Acts 11:19-26

  4. Is it wrong to examine the teachings and practices of others this way?

  5. It Is Imperative! • 2 John 9-11 • 2 Peter 2:1-3, 3:14-18 • James 5:19-20 • Ephesians 5:23, 1:22-23; cf. Acts 2:47, Colossians 1:13

  6. Churches must declare the gospel and defend it. Jude 3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. Philippians 1:17 …knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. 1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;

  7. The church must “try” or “test” the teaching of others. 1 John 4:1, 6 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world…6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

  8. The church must “try” or “test” the teaching of others. • Revelation 2:1-4 • Revelation 2:14-15 • Revelation 2:18-23

  9. The church must “try” or “test” the teaching of others. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

  10. The church must “try” or “test” the teaching of others. Acts 20:29-31 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31 Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears. Titus 1:10-11 For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, 11 whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not,

  11. The church must “try” or “test” the teaching of others. Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves 2 Timothy 2:15-18, 3:10 – 4:4

  12. Obey the gospel today! • Believe – John 8:24 • Confess – Matthew 10:32-33 • Repent – Luke 13:3 • Be Baptized – Mark 16:16 • Be Faithful – Revelation 2:10
